the making of ... Kluun

(For non-Dutch readers) Kluun is a well known writer with a nose for popular vocabulary and publicity. With his first novel, he popped by. We became friends along the way.

1st assignment
He wanted to launch his first novel with a website. As he was a debut writer, no one was out there waiting for his book. How do you ensure that your controversial debut is going to get attention? We turned his tough-love story into a game. “Er komt een vrouw bij de dokter.” (Love Life)

Goal
To sell more than 100,000 copies as a first-time writer.

Strategy
All marketing communication is conducted online via a high-profile (and controversial) online game where you as a site visitor could replay the plot of the first book, “Komt een vrouw bij de dokter”, virtually. Players could make new decisions for the title character to send the story in other directions.
Kluun’s second book is launched by a online “live” presentation.
